Customer Service Tips for Real Estate Agents from a Fellow Business Owner
As a Las Vegas real estate photographer, while I may not work in the nitty gritty of real estate, I certainly have the pleasure of working with countless amazing members of the real estate community. Real estate agents are essentially small business owners, but often go without the recognition they deserve. Trust me, I know — owning a business is hard work. First of all, props to everyone out there hustling and earning an honest living through dedication and hard work.
I wanted to take a minute to talk about customer service as a small business owner. Real estate agents interact with an unimaginable number of leads, some of whom turn into clients, and hopefully from there all turn into a closed deal. Converting legitimate leads into clients is usually as simple as winning them over. I’m here today to share some of my own experience as a real estate photographer, and maybe offer someone a new perspective on customer service as a small business owner.
Take your time
Once you’ve determined that the lead isn’t a pure-and-simple waste of time, take a few extra minutes to get to know them. Not only will this help you understand their needs better, but it will make them feel more comfortable trusting you with one of the biggest financial decisions of their life. Real estate is definitely a people-oriented hustle, so make the most of the time you spend with each person or couple. It will make the entire working relationship altogether more pleasant, and in turn will make your job more enjoyable. In summary: don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
Give Unforgettable Service
Put on your biggest, most genuine smile when you meet with prospects for the first time; though these days they might not be able to see it through your mask, they will definitely hear it in your voice. Make their property or office visit a memorable experience with unforgettable customer service, which includes a great attitude, attentive listening, and taking the time to truly understand their needs.
Be Available
Stay close to your phone at all times to answer texts, emails, or calls as soon as you get them. Even if you’re busy when they reach out, let them know that you’ll get to their questions as soon as you can. By treating their situation with urgency, you’ll help your clients feel like they are important to you — because they are!
Under-promise, Over-deliver
Although you’ve probably heard this one before, it’s a good concept to keep top of mind. It might be tempting to win over leads with dazzling ideas that keep them hooked, but you may end up disappointing them later on if you can’t deliver. Keep their expectations realistic as you begin serving them, but keep an eye out for opportunities that could really wow them. When you offer your customers unexpected good news, they’ll be extra excited AND extra stoked on the service you gave them.
These are just some basic sales and customer service principles that I’ve learned during my time as a real estate photographer in Las Vegas. I find that, when I take the time to remind myself of these fundamental practices, my clients are happier and my work becomes more enjoyable. What’s not to love about that?
